Help Us Support North Street Community Members

Sustaining and Strengthening Inclusive Community

Help Us Support North Street Community Members image

We are fundraising to ensure consistent long-term support for all members of our community

The North Street Neighborhood in Durham, where people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities share life together, began 12 years ago and is built on a model of mutuality and of neighbors helping neighbors. North Street's greatest resource is the people--all the people. But without someone in a paid role to daily listen to neighbors' needs and help coordinate opportunities for support and connection, people can sometimes fall through the cracks in even the best communities--and North Street is definitely one of the best! So, as part of our long-term sustainability goal for of our inclusive community, the North Street Resident Support Network partnered with HOPE NC to introduce the community facilitator role in January 2024. In 2024, the Community Facilitator has:

  • Supported existing North Street activities to ensure they are as inclusive as possible and introduced new opportunities for connection (Board Game Days, Neighborhood Walks to Downtown, Book Clubs, etc.) especially at times and days neighbors reported feeling most bored or lonely
  • Accompanied neighbors with I/DD to set and accomplish goals, connect to other neighbors, and provide referrals to various resources
  • Worked as a liaison to connect residents to the greater community outside of the neighborhood

All of this takes financial support for the position of the Community Facilitator as well as funding for supplies for programming and the cost of some outings. Your donation will help ensure this important resource continues into the future.

And, two anonymous donors will match every dollar donated up to $15,000 for this campaign-so your gift today will go twice as far!
